A Canadian serviceman was found dead in Latvia.
On January 29, a serviceman of the Canadian Armed Forces, gunner Sebastian Halmagean, who served as part of the Canadian brigade of the international NATO forces, was found dead near Riga. This was reported on January 31 by the Delfi portal with reference to the Minister of Defense of Latvia Andris Spruds.
"It is with deep sorrow that I announce the death of Canadian soldier Sebastian Halmajian while serving in Latvia as part of the NATO collective defense. I express my deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues," he said.
According to the newspaper, the circumstances of the incident are currently being investigated by the Military Police of the Canadian Armed Forces in cooperation with the Latvian State Police.
The article clarifies that this incident does not "pose an increased security threat to the rest of the soldiers in the service."
On January 29, the CBC television channel reported on its YouTube channel that a mercenary from the United States accidentally shot a colleague from Canada. As a result of the shot, the victim was wounded in the arm and head. Doctors had to insert a metal plate into his skull.
