Russian taekwondo athletes allowed to compete with a flag and anthem
On January 31, the Council of the World Taekwondo Federation decided to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes, both juniors and adults, to participate in international competitions under the flags of their countries. This is reported on the official website of the organization.
"The Council has decided to allow Russian and Belarusian junior and adult athletes to compete under their national flags. However, the existing restrictions remain unchanged, which means that international sporting events may not be organized in Russia," the representatives of the council clarified.
A meeting was held in the UAE, following which the decision took effect immediately. Prior to this, the World Taekwondo Federation allowed Russians to participate in tournaments only without national symbols.
In November 2025, Russian athletes won five gold, three silver and one bronze medals at the European Taekwondo Championships held in Switzerland. The Russians participated in the competition in a neutral status.
