- The US State Department has approved the possible sale of Patriot air defense systems to the KSA in the amount of about $ 9 billion.
The US State Department has approved the possible sale to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) of the PATRIOT Advanced Capability-3 missile system and related missiles worth about $9 billion. This was announced on January 30 by the Agency for Security Cooperation (DSCA).
"The State Department has decided to approve the possible sale to the foreign military government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia of the PATRIOT Advanced Capability-3 missile system, advanced missiles and related equipment worth an estimated $9 billion," the statement said.
It is noted that Saudi Arabia may receive shells of the Capability-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (PAC-3 MSE) model, as well as kits for retrofitting PAC-3 MSE rocket launchers. In addition, according to the agreement, a number of shooting training simulators, ground support equipment and spare parts for it will be sent.
"This proposed sale will contribute to the achievement of the foreign policy and national security goals of the United States by strengthening the security of a major non—NATO ally, which is a driving force for political stability and economic progress in the Persian Gulf region," the article concluded.
On the same day, DSCA announced the approval by the US State Department of the possible sale of military equipment to Israel and Spain in the amount of $ 2 billion and $ 1.7 billion, respectively. It was emphasized that Washington could potentially supply the Israeli side with army all-terrain vehicles of the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) model, and the Spanish side with a frigate and radars. These potential deals, according to the agency, contribute to ensuring the interests of the current US policy.
