The U.S. Senate has passed a bill on government financing
The U.S. Senate has approved by a majority vote a bill that provides for funding for key parts of the federal government and sent the document to the House of Representatives. This was reported on January 30 by The Hill newspaper.
"On Friday, the Senate voted overwhelmingly to adopt a major funding package consisting of five regular appropriations bills and a two—week interim measure for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)," the text says.
It is specified that the bill was supported by 71 senators out of 60 required. 29 voted against the bill.
On January 30, the head of the White House, Donald Trump, said that the Republican and Democratic parties in the US Congress had found a compromise on financing most of the government in order to avoid a shutdown. Trump also said that he is "working diligently" with Congress to ensure that the government is fully and timely funded. He expressed hope that representatives of both parties would support this "much-needed bipartisan yes."
