Violinist Lundstrom spoke about the popularity of classical music at the forefront
Military personnel on the front line enjoy listening to classical music performed by artists who come to support them. This was stated in the new issue of the Izvestia podcast by Peter Lundstrom, violinist and deputy chairman of the Cultural Commission of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, who regularly performs in the special military operation zone.
"Of course, we don't play philharmonic concerts at the front in two sections of 45 minutes each. But believe me, guys listen to 20, 30, sometimes 40 minutes of music with great pleasure and ask for more. However, it always depends on the operational situation. Often, when I went to combat units, sometimes on the first line, of course, there are only 15 minutes there, and I play, for example, a small piece by Bach and Paganini," the musician said.
According to him, the main thing is to choose the right repertoire. Lundstrom noted that his goal is not to entertain the military, but to distract.
"There is nothing wrong with entertainment, it should also be present, but classical music, high, authentic art distracts, fascinates, lures, but does not entertain. Entertainment is a centrifugal force, relaxing, and fascination and distraction are centripetal when a person gathers," he said.
The repertoire depends on whether he performs alone or with colleagues, the violinist said. Recently, Lundstrom and pianist Evgeny Starodubtsev gave eight concerts in Energodar in two days.
Earlier, saxophonist Igor Butman criticized attempts to abolish Soviet music in Ukraine. He recalled that Leonid Utesov was the soul of the Soviet Union and stressed that after the end of the conflict, people's love should prevail.
