A drunk driver who knocked down two women with children is awaiting trial in the Lipetsk region.

In the Lipetsk region, the investigation of a criminal case against a motorist who got behind the wheel drunk and hit two women with children has been completed. This is reported by the regional prosecutor's office.

The accident occurred on January 7, 2025 in Chaplygin. On Kalinina Street, a 42-year-old Ford Mondeo driver ran over a 35-year-old and a 60-year-old woman with children aged 11 years and four months.

According to GOROD48, the women walked along the edge of the roadway along with the movement of cars. Both suffered injuries, the younger of them severe, including an open craniocerebral one. The children were not injured in the accident, but were taken to the hospital for examination.

It was established that the Ford driver was drunk at the time of the incident. In addition, three and a half months before, he had been stripped of his driver's license for drunk driving.

The man is charged under clauses "a, b" of Part 2 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of traffic rules that negligently caused serious harm to human health, committed by a person deprived of a driver's license and intoxicated"). The sanction of this article provides for three to seven years of imprisonment.

The investigation of the criminal case has been completed. The materials were submitted to the court for consideration on the merits.

Earlier in January, it was reported that the investigation of a criminal case against a motorist from the city of Severomorsk, who got behind the wheel under the influence of drugs and caused a fatal accident, had been completed. Driving a Lexus RX350, she seriously exceeded the speed limit and crashed into a Renault Duster. The driver of the crossover was killed on the spot.
