The Moscow Metro talked about testing an unmanned train
The launch of an unmanned train in Moscow for passenger traffic is planned for 2027, and developers are currently testing the design. Pavel Boksha, head of the Center for Research and Development of Unmanned Transport of the Moscow Metro, told about this on January 30 during a press tour.
"We have launched testing on behalf of Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. It will take place on the Bolshaya Koltsevaya Line on the Moscow-2024 train," he said.
According to Boksha, at the end of this year it is planned to launch a train without passengers on schedule in compliance with all the rules of the Moscow metro.
"In 2027, we expect to add that we will already launch this train for passenger traffic, and by 2030 we will organize movement along the line of unmanned trains," he said.
Currently, experts are checking the train's braking, acceleration, and speed control. In addition, the developers are testing machine vision systems to search for anomalies in tunnels, fall control, and dispatching control.
The main task of the drivers at the moment is to ensure that the train complies with the safety rules in the subway.
"I'm just watching here as an observer for security, and the system is already working on itself," said Anton Malakhov, an engineer at the Moscow Metro.
Roman Khikhin, senior project manager at the Center for Research and Development of unmanned vehicles at the Moscow Metro State Unitary Enterprise, stressed that if an object falls, a special system will notify the control room so that the train can stop in advance.
"She gives the unmanned train permission to depart so that no one is trapped by the doors, so that everyone moves away from the train," Khikhin added.
On the same day, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin named the Novorizhskaya metro station, which is being built on the Rublyovo-Arkhangelskaya line. It was noted that the station will become part of the new Rublyovo-Arkhangelskaya line with a length of 27.6 km. A total of 12 stations are planned to be built.
