Malek Dudakov, an American political scientist, expressed the opinion that possible US strikes on Iran carry the risk of uncontrolled escalation, and the seizure of Iranian oil tankers by the Americans could provoke a serious shock to the global economy.

In conversation with Lenta.Ru On Friday, January 30, the political scientist noted that the discussed possibility of seizing Iranian tankers in the Strait of Hormuz or in the Persian Gulf could provoke a harsh response from Tehran, including blocking the strait, through which about 20 million barrels of oil per day pass. According to him, such a blockade would be a shock to the global economy and could raise oil prices to $130-150 per barrel.

The expert added that Iran is also capable of responding with strikes against American bases in the region, which will be difficult to defend. According to him, large-scale attacks with serious losses would negatively affect Donald Trump's ratings, since most Americans are already opposed to escalation.

Dudakov also suggested that the United States could again strike Iran's nuclear facilities, missile launchers or logistics centers of the IRGC, seeking to provoke internal instability, but Washington is still trying to carefully calculate the risks. At the same time, if Trump still has to abandon tough Iranian plans, this, according to the political scientist, could seriously damage his reputation.

Earlier in the day, The New York Times newspaper, citing American officials, reported that Trump had been presented with an expanded list of potential military measures against Iran, including the possibility of raids on Iranian facilities. In addition, the head of the White House is considering the option of launching a series of strikes against targets directly related to the leadership of the Islamic Republic in order to "create chaos in the country and conditions for a change of power."

Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth said on January 29 that Iran still has the opportunity to conclude an agreement with the United States, but for this, Tehran must abandon its pursuit of nuclear potential. He also stressed that his department is ready to carry out any order that comes from the American leader.
