In Russia, it was proposed to amend the legislation by fixing the requirement to place photo and video cameras in front of a pedestrian crossing with a control zone no further than 150 m. This initiative was initiated by the National Automobile Union (NAS), which prepared a letter addressed to Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, TASS reported on January 30.

Currently, photo- and video-recording systems at pedestrian crossings should be installed in such a way that the crossing falls into the control zone of the complex, which is no more than 50 m. As WE noted, in this way, the complexes record only the consequences of traffic violations, and speeding at the entrance to the crossing, which is often the cause of accidents.

Thanks to the proposed changes, even outdated complexes will monitor drivers' compliance with the speed limit at the entrance to the pedestrian crossing, representatives of the union said. Another important problem was the presence of a large number of outdated and inefficient photo- and video-recording systems that do not know how to recognize and record the non-admission of pedestrians.

Uniform requirements for the installation of road complexes for photo and video recording of traffic violations have been in effect in Russia since September 1, 2024.

The day before, it was reported that the cameras of the Traffic Management Center in Moscow began to detect scooters and bicycles on the roads. Cameras have learned how to capture the movement of SIM users in lanes designed for cars, which is prohibited by traffic regulations and creates danger.
