Drugs and weapons seized in Serbia after raid on agricultural company
Serbian law enforcement authorities seized 5 tons of marijuana and five weapons as part of a raid on a small agricultural company in a village in the center of the country. This was reported on January 30 by Reuters, citing the country's interior minister.
"This is the largest seizure [in the country's history]," said Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic.
The minister added that two people were also arrested during the raid, but one suspect is still at large. In addition to drugs, four machine guns and one grenade launcher were seized.
The publication notes that Serbia is striving to join the European Union (EU), which is why in recent years the country has stepped up its fight against drug trafficking and production. Most of the drugs enter Serbia from the Middle East and Latin America.
On January 27, Portuguese authorities intercepted a drug mafia submarine with drugs on board in the North Atlantic. The submarine, which was heading to Europe from Latin America, was detained more than 400 km from the Azores Islands. According to the newspaper, the boat was carrying almost 9 tons of cocaine, the cost of which is estimated at 520 million pounds (about 54 billion rubles).
