Over the past day, 242 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 21 people were killed and 298 injured. 18 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on January 30 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

So, in the Jewish Autonomous Region, in the morning, on 2092 km of the Chita—Khabarovsk federal highway, a female passenger car driver lost control on a winter road and drove into the oncoming lane, where she collided with a cargo and passenger Gazelle driven by a 52-year-old driver. The impact caused the car to slide into a roadside ditch, while the van remained on the roadway, after which another passenger car crashed into it. The passenger of the car responsible for the accident, as well as the driver and two passengers of the Gazelle, who were hospitalized with injuries of varying severity, were injured in the accident.

24 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which there were no fatalities, but 31 road users, including four children, needed medical attention. 16 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.

As a result of 76 accidents, 42 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 34 outside their area of operation, three pedestrians were killed, and 74 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 15 underage pedestrians, nine of whom were injured while crossing the roadway in designated areas.

In Omsk, in the morning, at a regulated pedestrian crossing, a trolleybus driver, ignoring a forbidding traffic light, ran over a 12-year-old schoolboy crossing the road at a signal allowing him to move. The boy was hospitalized in serious condition.

There were also 29 accidents involving minors, in which 30 young road users, including 15 passengers, were injured. There are no dead children.

On the eve of the weekend, the State Traffic Inspectorate called on motorists and drivers of public vehicles to strictly observe traffic regulations and be more attentive on the roads of settlements and cities. Special care should be taken when passing intersections and pedestrian crossings. There is no need to rush to "skip" them as quickly as possible, you should slow down to the minimum speed in advance in order to stop in time and let pedestrians pass. Before you start driving, you need to make sure that the pedestrian crosswalk is completely free.

"In addition, we advise road users on foot to use retroreflective elements on their clothes to improve visibility by drivers during short daylight hours, winter weather, as well as in the morning and evening," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

In January, it was reported that Moscow had broken its own historical record for road safety. The number of people killed in road accidents per 100,000 population (the social risk level) decreased by the end of 2025 to 2.22 units, said Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of the capital for transport.
