- Nebenzia called on the United States to "measure seven times and not cut off one" on the issue of Iran
The US authorities, who are considering a possible military strike on Iran, should carefully weigh all the consequences of such a step and decide whether to abandon it. This advice was given on January 30 by the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Vasily Nebenzya.
"We all advise Americans to measure it seven times and not cut it off once," he told Rossiya-24 TV channel.
The diplomat added that Iran is currently much better prepared for possible aggression against the country than it was last summer.
"The situation is alarming. And a blow can be struck. However, Iran, this time, I think, is better prepared for such a turn of the plot than it was ready for this in June," the diplomat warned.
The New York Times (NYT) reported on January 29 that US President Donald Trump was presented with an expanded list of potential military measures against Iran, including conducting raids by American troops on facilities inside the Islamic Republic. Sources of the publication indicated that Trump remains open to a diplomatic solution for now.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on the same day that military action on the Iranian issue could create chaos in the region and lead to serious consequences for regional security. Moscow has repeatedly appealed to the parties to show restraint, he stressed.
