The resurgence in popularity of board games is not an accidental trend, but a natural response to the growing digital overload and the need for live communication. Anastasia Mironenko, psychologist of the modi brand of emotional goods, told Izvestia on January 31.

According to her, modern people are increasingly faced with fatigue from constant interaction with gadget screens, the need to always be in touch and a stream of notifications. In response, a request is formed for conscious leisure, where attention is focused and emotions are experienced in real time — this is exactly the opportunity provided by board games, allowing you to disconnect from the digital world.

"A change in leisure preferences has also become an important factor: different generations are now more likely to spend their free time at home in a relaxed atmosphere. An evening with family or friends playing with hot drinks turns into a full—fledged and valuable event that strengthens relationships," the psychologist believes.

From a psychological point of view, board games develop cognitive and social skills: they train attention, memory, strategic thinking, the ability to negotiate and work in a team, and also help reduce stress levels. Therefore, the growing interest in them cannot be considered a temporary hobby — it is a steady response to lifestyle changes and a request for more meaningful, lively communication.

Unlike computer games, board games do not put strain on the eyesight and nervous system from the screen, stimulate direct interaction, eye contact and create unique shared memories and jokes.

"In recent years, the range of board games has expanded significantly and become more complex: from classic card variants to complex role-playing systems for sophisticated players. There are a variety of genres and mechanics on store shelves, from mini—versions of sports games such as table basketball or air hockey, to strategic constructors, quizzes and guessing games," said Mironenko.

Modern games take into account a variety of requests and are suitable for a family evening, a meeting with friends, a romantic date or even for a solitary pastime, which makes them accessible and attractive to the widest audience.

Psychiatrist Alexander Fedorovich told us on August 21 what the dangers of digital detox are. According to him, during digital detox, a person may feel disconnected from the information community and become a "black sheep," and this practice only increases the distance between him and the external environment.
