The American hockey club (HC) Washington beat rivals from Detroit in the National Hockey League (NHL) championship match after two power plays conducted on the ice by Russian Washington striker Alexander Ovechkin. The final score of the meeting on January 29 was 4:3.

So, 40-year-old Ovechkin, playing his 1,546th NHL game, managed to achieve a historic achievement by simultaneously holding two power moves against his rivals, Sport-Express pointed out.

In a match on the ice of the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, a Russian knocked down Swedish Detroit striker Elmer Söderblom at his blue line in the fourth minute with the score 0-0. And 20 seconds later, in the wrong zone, he crashed into Canadian defenseman Ben Sciaro, which caused him to lose the puck.

As a result of the game, Ovechkin rose to fifth place in the number of points scored in the NHL per club, equaling Canadian Wayne Gretzky in this indicator. He scored an assist in the 50th minute, which helped him score 1,669 points.

On January 28, Ovechkin scored his 919th career goal against Seattle. The striker scored in the 43rd minute of the away game, realizing the majority and setting the score 1:3. This is his 22nd goal of the season.
