Malefactors pretending to be women, operating on dating sites, began to extort money from their victims, allegedly for the treatment of a child. This was reported by RIA Novosti on January 30.

So, according to the agency, criminals create online pages of girls and begin to get acquainted with men on the Internet. Then, when they have an interlocutor, they tell him about a sick child who needs money for treatment, after which they begin to ask for help. After receiving the transfer, the fraudster breaks the connection with the victim.

As it is specified, the scheme does not end there.: after a while, the scammers get in touch with the deceived person again and offer him to repay the debt. To do this, they ask you to dictate a five-digit SMS code to confirm the fact of the operation, after which the funds available in the account are stolen.

Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation provided Russians with instructions on January 23, which prescribe actions in case of accidental transmission of an SMS code to fraudsters. Firstly, in this case, they urged to urgently stop communicating with intruders, secondly, to check access to all important services: email, account on the Gosuslugi portal and banking applications by updating passwords there, and thirdly, if you lose your password, immediately contact customer support, the bank or The police.
