A native of Minnesota, who, posing as an agent of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), tried to rescue Luigi Mangione, accused of murdering the CEO of the UnitedHealthcare insurance company Brian Thompson, from prison, was arrested in New York. This was reported by CNBC on Thursday, January 29.

The incident, as specified in the text, occurred the day before. The detainee, who turned out to be 36-year-old Mark Anderson from Mankato, tried to enter the prison on a driver's license, and also told the guards that he had a weapon.

"Claiming to be an FBI agent and stating that he had a court order for the release of Luigi Mangione, <...> Anderson also showed <...> a variety of documents to the officers," the material says.

Representatives of the FBI stated that the one who tried to impersonate their colleague took with him a barbecue fork, a card certifying his right to drive vehicles (TS) and a large blade to commit an illegal liberation operation. It later became clear that the man, who is now being charged with impersonating an authorized person of the special service, came to the city to work and was employed in a pizzeria.

Mangione was arrested on December 9, 2024, on charges of murdering the chief executive officer of the American insurance company UnitedHealthcare, Brian Thompson.

Later, on April 18, 2025, Mangione was charged with harassment, murder and illegal possession of weapons.
