The Islamic Republic of Iran has every chance of concluding an agreement with the United States, but it should abandon its pursuit of nuclear capabilities. This was announced on January 29 by the head of the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth.

"(To Iran. — Ed.) provide every opportunity to conclude an agreement. They should not seek nuclear capabilities," he said during a meeting between US President Donald Trump and members of his cabinet.

The head of the Pentagon added that representatives of his department would be ready to execute any order they receive from the American leader.

Sources of The New York Times (NYT) reported on January 26 that the Iranian government is currently in the weakest position, which has not been recorded since the 1979 revolution. Two days later, Trump announced that large military forces of his state had approached the shores of the republic, and later threatened Tehran with more powerful strikes than those inflicted in the summer of 2025. Speaking about this, he said that the Iranian side is "running out of time."

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on January 29 that military action in the context of the Iranian issue could create chaos in the region and lead to serious consequences for regional security. He stressed that Moscow once again appeals to the parties to exercise restraint.
