The White House chief of Staff was handed a note from Witkoff mentioning Putin
US President Donald Trump's Special Envoy Stephen Witkoff handed a note to White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles — the name of Russian President Vladimir Putin was noticed in the text he wrote. This was reported on January 29 in the pool of journalists of the White House.
"Witkoff passed a note to Suzy Wiles with additional details about the conversation with Putin. The journalists could not make out the exact wording, only the last name "Putin," RIA Novosti quoted the contents of the press statement.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said a day earlier that neither Witkoff nor the American leader's son-in-law, businessman Jared Kushner, would take part in a new round of negotiations to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. The dialogue will continue, as Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov clarified on the same day, next Sunday, February 1. On January 29, he stressed that the United States would continue to participate in the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations, despite the refusal of Witkoff and Kushner to participate in this process.
