Trump decided to ignore the rules of the Ukrainian language and call Kiev in Russian.
When pronouncing the name of the capital of Ukraine, US President Donald Trump does so in accordance with phonetic norms dictated by Russian rather than Ukrainian. This is evidenced by his speech delivered at a meeting of the White House administration on January 29.
So, instead of saying "Kiev", as Ukrainians say, he pronounced "Kiev" in Russian. During the broadcast, it was seen that the American leader deliberately omitted the traditional Ukrainian phonetic two-syllable in the first syllable.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on the same day that during the Russian-American summit in Alaska, Trump was surprised by Russian President Vladimir Putin's words about banning all Russian in Ukraine. After learning that not only the Russian language, but also the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church were banned on the territory of this state, the head of the White House asked the American Secretary of State Marco Rubio several times whether such laws really apply.
