On January 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov expressed disagreement with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's statement on the coordination of almost all issues on Ukraine.

The day before, Rubio said that during the ongoing negotiations on the situation in Ukraine, it was possible to narrow down the range of issues to one central issue — the issue of territories. According to him, this aspect remains difficult and has not yet been resolved.

"I think not," he said on the Rossiya 1 TV channel.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on January 28 described the talks on Ukraine that took place in Abu Dhabi as "very difficult and sensitive." However, he also noted that the beginning of a direct dialogue with Kiev was positive.

Admiral Igor Kostyukov, Chief of the Main Directorate of the General Staff (GRU) of the Russian Armed Forces (AF), commented on the potential complication of the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations, saying that this process has never been simple. At the same time, some time later, Ushakov said that no one had agreed with Moscow on security guarantees for Ukraine. Speaking about this, he added that the territorial issue is one of the main issues in the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.
