A resident of the Krasnodar Territory is suspected of fraud with the sale of fake red caviar. The swindler was detained in Stavropol, the press service of the regional headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported on Thursday, January 29.

According to police, a 45-year-old woman bought artificial caviar from a chain store and packaged it in plastic containers on her own. She brought the product to Stavropol and offered it to the staff of one of the business centers, passing it off as a natural delicacy.

The check began after the appeal of one of the customers, writes IA StavropolMedia. The victim tasted the caviar and realized that the products were counterfeit. Law enforcement officers have determined that there are at least six more victims.

A criminal case was opened against the malefactor under Part 2 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud"). The police urged citizens to be vigilant when buying products from private individuals and, if possible, purchase goods only in official stores.

Earlier, Izvestia wrote how "leftist" suppliers earn money from counterfeit seafood for the New Year. So, before the holiday, huge volumes of expired and poached caviar are sold.
