A mercenary from the United States, fighting for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), accidentally shot a colleague from Canada. This was announced on January 28 by the CBC television channel in its YouTube channel.
It is noted that the incident occurred in November 2025. According to the TV channel, an American soldier mistook a Canadian soldier for a Russian soldier after he uttered a phrase in Russian.
As a result of the shot, the victim was wounded in the arm and head. Doctors had to insert a metal plate into his skull.
On the same day, it became known that the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to recruit Colombians into their ranks, despite Colombia's adoption of the UN Convention on combating mercenary activities. It was noted that a Peruvian recruiter said during a live broadcast on a social network that another group of Colombian mercenaries would fly to Ukraine in early February.
