Lyudmila Lapa, a general practitioner, allergist, and immunologist, criticized well-known folk methods of treating acute respiratory viral infections.

In an interview with Radio 1 on January 28, the specialist noted that most of these "therapeutic" methods originate on the Internet and have no medical justification. According to her, the use of peroxide is extremely dangerous.: As a strong oxidizing agent, it can cause burns to the mucous membrane and is life-threatening.

Lapa explained that garlic is acceptable only as a preventive measure, but it is pointless to use it for treatment. Similarly, potatoes, according to the expert, not only do not cure, but can lead to burns, and hot steam does not affect viruses and can increase inflammation, especially in bacterial infections, accelerating its spread to the lungs.

The doctor stressed that folk methods were relevant in the past, when there were no effective medicines, but today, at the first signs of illness, you should consult a specialist. At the same time, she clarified that warming up the legs with mustard or salt is permissible only when hypothermia occurs, since it can support the immune system, but such procedures are categorically contraindicated in case of illness, writes RT.

On January 17, Olga Ulankina, a doctor, explained the danger of going to work with acute respiratory viral infections. According to the specialist, doctors always recommend staying at home and staying in bed at the first sign of a cold. Refusing to rest at this time can lead to serious consequences.

In December of last year, internist and evidence-based medicine specialist Sergey Polyakov, in an interview with the website kp.ru He warned that immunomodulators can provoke allergies and digestive problems. According to him, to date, there are no clinical studies confirming that the use of immunomodulators accelerates recovery or prevents the development of acute respiratory viral infections. 360.ru .
