The expert stated about the legal problems of the initiative to recalculate vacation days

The LDPR's idea to recalculate vacation days in a new way is part of the usual activity of the parties before the elections. Sometimes social initiatives that are simple and understandable to people look good in the news, but they rarely come to fruition. Sofya Lukinova, head of the legal department at VMT Consult, told Izvestia on January 29 that the bill looked more like a political statement for voters than a carefully prepared amendment to labor laws.

"From a legal point of view, such an amendment would create a lot of problems. Currently, in the Labor Code, vacation is considered a continuous period — it includes both working days and weekends (except public holidays). If you change this principle, you will have to rewrite not just one article of the law, but a number of related rules.: what is the length of service for vacations, how schedules are drawn up, how vacation pay and compensation are paid upon dismissal," the expert noted.

Without a complete revision of these rules, confusion will arise. Employers and employees will begin to understand the length of vacation differently, which will lead to a sharp increase in conflicts and litigation. Even if the idea seems attractive, in practice it can create more difficulties than benefits and remain just an election promise.
