- The media called Russian-made submarines the main threat to the US Navy off the coast of Iran.
The Russian-made Varshavyanka submarines in service with Iran may pose a major threat to the aircraft carrier strike group of the US Navy in the Persian Gulf. Columnist Jack Buckby wrote about this on January 29 in an article for 19FortyFive.
"They are exceptionally quiet, and combined with the fact that the submarines can carry heavy torpedoes and lay mines, it becomes clear how valuable an asset they are to the Iranian navy," the material says.
At the same time, according to the observer, Iran has only three Russian Varshavyanka. He admits that their small number and age may limit the operational readiness of the country.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier in the day that military action in the context of the Iranian issue could lead to serious consequences for regional security. He stressed that Moscow considers power scenarios against Iran unacceptable, which could destabilize the situation in the Middle East.
The New York Times (NYT) newspaper, citing sources, reported on January 26 that one of the largest and most powerful aircraft carriers of the US Navy, the Abraham Lincoln model, which was stationed in the waters of the Indian Ocean, is ready to attack Iran within one or two days if necessary. It was clarified that this aircraft carrier is accompanied by three other warships, which, in turn, are equipped with Tomahawk missiles.
