- Peskov stated the need to take into account the interests of Lukoil in the deal with Carlyle.
The interests of the Russian company must be respected when concluding a deal between the Russian oil company Lukoil and the American investment company Carlyle. This was announced on January 29 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
"The main thing for us is that the interests of the Russian company are ensured and respected," he said at a briefing.
The spokesman also added that Russia considers the sanctions imposed against Lukoil to be illegal and unacceptable, noting that this is the basis of Russia's position.
"Secondly, this is a corporate agreement, and in this case we cannot comment on them," Peskov concluded.
On the same day, Lukoil announced the conclusion of an agreement with Carlyle on the sale of a subsidiary of Lukoil International GmbH, which owns foreign assets. It was noted that the transaction does not include assets in the Republic of Kazakhstan, which will remain owned by the Lukoil Group and will continue to operate under the relevant license.
In December last year, the U.S. Treasury Department authorized international operations with Lukoil necessary for servicing gas stations until April 29, 2026. Later, the agency extended the license until January 17, 2026, which allows negotiating and concluding conditional contracts for the sale of foreign assets to the Lukoil oil company.
In October, the U.S. Treasury Department imposed sanctions on Russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil. It was clarified that restrictions were imposed for their activities in the Russian energy sector.
