The production of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in the UK in 2025 decreased to the lowest level since 1952. During the year, 764,000 vehicles were produced in the country, TASS reported on January 29, citing data from the Society of Automobile Manufacturers and Sellers (SMMT).

Car production was 15.5% lower than the previous year, which was the lowest level since 1952. Mike Howes, head of the SMMT, called 2025 the hardest year for the industry in a generation. According to him, the situation was affected by several factors at once, including disruptions in the work of Jaguar Land Rover enterprises due to cyber attacks last fall, the closure of the Vauxhall plant in Luton, as well as the consequences of US trade policy.

Back in 2016, the volume of car production in the country reached 1.7 million units per year, according to British media. Since then, the industry has faced a series of crises, from the uncertainty surrounding Britain's exit from the EU to the COVID—19 pandemic and the imposition of trade restrictions by Washington.

At the same time, the SMMT expects a gradual recovery of the industry. It is expected that in 2026, car production will grow by about 10%, and in 2027, production may again exceed 1 million cars per year. The British government expects car production to grow to more than 1.5 million units annually by 2035.

On January 26, the analytical agency Autostat found that by the end of 2025, 695 new Luxury cars were sold in Russia. Sales increased by 22% over the year, and British Rolls-Royce became the most popular brand in this market segment.
