President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has requested a report on the situation in Minsk amid difficult weather conditions in the country's capital. On January 29, he received Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee Vladimir Kukharev with a report on the current weather situation.

He noted that he himself does not notice any big problems in the city, but people on the ground may see the situation on a larger scale.

"The main issue is the situation in Minsk. <...> I want to say bluntly that I don't see any big problems in Minsk. But it's me. And you, as the head of our city, the capital, are constantly spinning in this wheel and know more than I do," the BelTA news agency quoted him as saying.

Lukashenko added that he was most concerned about the problems in the management of the metropolis.

"This is very important in connection with the situation that is developing in Minsk as a result of the weather conditions. Therefore, this is the main issue," the head of state said.

In early January, it was reported that snowfall in Belarus had made it difficult for trains to move along certain sections of the railway. Trains were running off schedule on the routes Minsk – Orsha, Minsk – Gomel, Minsk – Brest and Zhlobin – Kalinkovichi.
