Radmir Korenev, the oldest member of the Russian Writers' Union, died at the age of 97 in Kamchatka. This was announced on January 29 on the website of the regional government.

"The oldest member of the Writers' Union of Russia of the Kamchatka Territory died at the age of 97 on January 28," the text says.

Radmir Aleksandrovich Korenev was born on October 9, 1929 in Ussuriysk, Primorsky Krai. His mother died when he was about two years old, and he was later raised by his grandfather. In 1942, his father died at the front, and a year later, his grandfather and grandmother died. Left without parents, Korenev left for Vladivostok.

The man worked as a boatmaster on whaling and fishing vessels. From 1981 to 1985, Korenev worked as the director of the school of the voluntary public organization "Water Rescue Society", trained boatmasters of small vessels, and then retired.

He started writing during his voyages. Korenev showed interest in literature already at an advanced age, despite the lack of special education, which gave his work uniqueness and depth. This circumstance allowed his works to become familiar and understandable to a wide range of readers. His first poems were published only in 1972.

Korenev began his career in literature with poetry, his work was not related to the humanities or literary courses. His contribution to Kamchatka literature will remain significant. In 1993, at the initiative of Nikolai Saneev, Chairman of the Kamchatka branch of the Writers' Union of Russia, the first and only School of Young Literary Talents in Russia was opened at the Writers' House, in which Korenev became one of the first mentors.

For more than 20 years, he has been developing the literary abilities of his students. His studio has educated many future writers. For his services in literary activity and book publishing, he was awarded the Governor's Award of the Kamchatka region, became the winner of the G. Porotov Prize, as well as the Novograblenov Prize.
