- A German journalist announced Zelensky's possible visit to Russia for the sake of negotiations
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky may have to accept an invitation to come to Moscow to continue Russian-Ukrainian talks, as Kiev has no choice. This was announced on January 28 by Steffen Schwarzkopf, a correspondent for the German newspaper Die Welt.
"[Zelensky] must sit down at the negotiating table. Ukrainians, in the end, have no choice anymore," he said as part of his report from Kiev, which was posted on the publication's YouTube channel.
In addition, the correspondent added that Zelensky probably has no desire to go to Russia.
Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov recalled on the same day that Russian President Vladimir Putin had repeatedly said that Zelensky could come to Moscow if he was ready for negotiations. He clarified that if the Ukrainian leader agrees to the invitation, the Russian side will ensure his safety. Zelensky himself said on December 30, 2025, that he was ready to meet with Putin in any format.
