Elephant rides have begun to close in Bali. This was reported on January 27 by the South China Morning Post (SCMP) newspaper with reference to the Balai Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam Nature Protection Agency (BKSDA).

"All conservation agencies have an obligation to stop elephant riding and begin the transition to more educational, innovative and ethical wildlife tourism," said Ratna Hendratmoko, head of BKSDA Bali.

It is specified that five major facilities have stopped excursions, including the Bali Zoo, Tasta Tabanan Wildlife Park and Mason Elephant Park Reserve in Gianyara.

On January 8, Mani Lamichane, Senior director at the Tourism Council of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal and chief for Gandaki Province, said that the elephant named Dhurbe, which killed 10 to 20 people in Chitwan National Park in the early 2010s, is under the control of the authorities and currently does not pose a threat. He added that the attacks of this animal have stopped and in the jungle, where he previously lived, those who wish can safely enjoy their holidays.
