At least five people have died as a result of Storm Christine in Portugal. This was reported on January 28 by the Portuguese TV channel SIC Noticias.

"At least five people died as a result of Storm Christine in Portugal on Wednesday. Three in Leiria, one in Vila Franca de Schira and one in Marinha Grande," the article says.

It is specified that the city of Leiria, in which three people died, became the most affected by the storm. One of the three victims died as a result of an accident at a photovoltaic plant when a metal sheet fell on him. The second was found under the collapsed roof of a house, and the third death was recorded at a construction site where a person's heart stopped.

On January 28, NBC News reported that in the United States, the death toll from a large-scale snowstorm had increased to 51 people. It was clarified that eight weather-related deaths were recorded in Louisiana and Tennessee. In Kentucky, a 72-year-old woman died of hypothermia, and another person, an inmate, died while clearing snow and ice at a correctional complex. New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani said 10 people were found dead on the streets of the city.

Earlier it was reported that 14 US states and the District of Columbia have declared a state of emergency due to the impending extreme cold and heavy snowfall.
