The disqualification of Russian athletes specializing in athletics from participating in international competitions is an attempt to eliminate a strong competitor in their person. This was announced on Wednesday, January 28, by Russian long jumper Daria Klishina, who is the silver medalist of the 2017 World Championships in Athletics.

"(Disqualified. — Ed.) to remove the strongest opponent," she said during her conversation with sports journalist Viktor Kravchenko, a recording of which was posted on his YouTube channel.

Klishina added that earlier, before the introduction of bans on participation in international competitions, the national team always came to these events in the largest number.

Sveriges Radio reported on January 7 that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has decided to ban the use of Russian symbols in the stands during the 2026 Winter Olympics, which will be held in Italy. It was emphasized that the adopted resolution will also apply to all countries, athletes from which participate only in a neutral status.
