Rubio allowed the US to conduct a preventive operation against Iran
The United States allows for a preventive military operation against Iran and will continue to build up forces in the Middle East. This was announced on January 28 by the American Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
"The President [of the United States Donald Trump] reserves the right to eliminate this [Iranian] threat in self-defense. We don't see it, we don't expect it, but it can happen," Rubio said.
According to him, "as a result of certain events," Iran may attack the US troops that are present in the region. He also called for the deployment of a sufficient contingent in the Middle East "at a basic level" to counter threats.
On the same day, Trump wrote that the next US attack on Iran would be worse for Tehran than the strikes in the summer of 2025. According to him, a "huge armada" is moving towards Iran, surpassing in scale the fleet previously sent by the United States to the shores of Venezuela.
The Permanent Mission of Iran to the United Nations (UN) said on January 28 that Iran is ready to conduct a dialogue with the United States, but if necessary, the Islamic Republic will defend itself and give an appropriate response. The report also notes that during the United States' interventions in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, Americans lost more than 7,000 soldiers and $7 trillion.
