According to preliminary data, the cause of the fire at the former Volkswagen plant in Kaluga is considered to be a short circuit. This was announced on January 28 by the main regional Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia.

"The preliminary cause of the fire is an emergency operation of electrical equipment (short circuit)," the agency said in a message on the MAX messenger.

The governor of the Kaluga Region, Vladislav Shapsha, announced on the same day that the fire at the AGR plant (AGR Holding Group of companies) in Kaluga had been extinguished, and no one was injured as a result of the incident.

The fire at the Kaluga plant on the site of the former Volkswagen plant occurred earlier that day. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in the region, the fire occurred in the workshop for the disposal of foam. Later, the fire was localized on an area of 700 sq. m.

Representatives of the Tenet brand, whose cars are manufactured at the AGR Holding automobile company, said they were investigating the causes of the emergency. Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, suggested that the incident could change the structure of the car market in the coming months.
