- Tennis player Muzetti withdrew from the quarterfinal match of the Australian Open due to injury.
Italian tennis player Lorenzo Musetti withdrew from the quarterfinals of the Australian Open (Australian Open-2026) due to a leg injury. He announced this on January 28 after a meeting with Serbian athlete Novak Djokovic.
Muzetti won the match against the 24-time Grand Slam tournament champion after two sets with the score 6:4, 6:3. He went the third set behind Djokovic with the score 1:3, but was forced to interrupt the game due to injury.
"I felt discomfort at the beginning of the second set. I realized that something was wrong with my right leg. I kept playing because I was actually doing very well. During the medical break, I sat down to rest, but when I started playing again, the pain got worse," Muzetti said at a press conference, as quoted by Sport-Express.
The athlete noted that he had passed all the necessary medical examinations before the start of the season. The results showed that he had no health problems.
On the eve of the Australian Open, all the participants of the quarterfinal round in men's singles were determined. Among them were Italians Yannick Sinner, Lorenzo Musetti, American Ben Shelton and Serbian Novak Djokovic. The finalist of last year's tournament, German Alexander Zverev and American Lerner Tien, will also join the fight for reaching the semifinals.
