- A case of abuse of authority was opened against a judge of the Sochi District Court.
Alexander Bastrykin, Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, has opened a criminal case against Valery Sluka, a judge of the Sochi District Court, for abuse of office. This was reported on January 28 in the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.
"The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia has initiated a criminal case on seven episodes of crimes under articles on abuse of office and making knowingly unlawful decisions against Valery Sluki, a judge of the Central District Court of Sochi, whose powers were terminated prematurely," the Telegram channel said.
According to the investigation, from June 2021 to July 2022, the judge, violating territorial jurisdiction, unreasonably accepted claims for production and, without examining the evidence and involving the parties, made seven knowingly unlawful decisions.
It is reported that the judge's decisions led to the illegal seizure of land plots from the municipal property of Sochi. Subsequently, the court of appeal overturned these decisions and returned the land to the city. Investigative actions are being carried out in the criminal case.
On January 24, Bastrykin instructed to send an appeal to the disciplinary board of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation on bringing to justice the Samara judge, who released from punishment the defendants in the case of the attack on State Duma deputy Mikhail Matveev. It is reported that during the preliminary investigation, the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Samara region classified the actions of the attackers as attempted murder (part 3 of art. 30, art. 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
Earlier, on December 31, the court of the Industrial district of Samara registered and accepted for consideration the complaint of the prosecutor's office of the Samara region, which filed an appeal against the verdict handed down on December 29 in the case of the attempted murder of Deputy Matveev.
On July 18, 2024, Matveev said that he had tried to end a conflict that had begun on one of the streets of Samara, presumably between migrants and local residents. However, according to the deputy, one of the participants hit him on the head, as a result of which Matveyev received a scalp dissection.
