A sauna is stressful for the body, as it causes vasodilation, tachycardia, fluctuations in blood pressure and impaired outflow of venous blood to the heart. The cardiologist of the highest category Valentina Gavrilyak told about it on Wednesday, January 28.

According to the specialist, after a bath, the vessels expand as much as possible, and a sudden cold due to pouring icy water, jumping into a snowdrift or pool can cause a pressure surge and spasm of the coronary vessels. These, in turn, lead to fatal arrhythmias, acute coronary syndrome, and even sudden cardiac death, the expert warned.

"Alcoholic beverages increase dehydration, tachycardia, electrolyte disturbances, and also increase the risk of atrial fibrillation and ventricular arrhythmias. It is especially dangerous to drink in the first 1-2 hours after the steam room, but nevertheless, this is what our citizens most often do," Gavrilyak said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .

The doctor stressed that if you jumped into a snowdrift or a cold pool after a bath and drank alcohol before that, your heart may not be able to stand it for an hour.

The cardiologist clarified that among the maximum risk groups there are people taking diuretics, beta blockers, antihypertensive drugs, as well as citizens with rhythm disorders, arterial hypertension, latent coronary heart disease, myocardial hypertrophy and atherosclerosis. She added that anyone over the age of 40 should be careful.

Gavrilyak advised to cool down gradually, rest for 20-30 minutes in a reclining position, monitoring your pulse and well-being to avoid dangerous consequences. She also recommended drinking warm water, preferably mineral water with a high content of potassium and magnesium, and completely abstaining from alcohol.

On January 11, Olesya Prishchepa, a psychotherapist, psychiatrist and narcologist at the National Research Medical Center for Therapy and Preventive Medicine of the Russian Ministry of Health, told Izvestia that drinking alcohol in a sauna can be deadly. She noted that in a sauna, in conditions of oxygen deficiency and high temperatures, dehydration increases, blood pressure rises, pulse rate increases, intoxication from alcohol breakdown products increases, which in turn increases the risk of thrombosis, cardiac arrhythmias, heart attacks and strokes.

In turn, therapist Nadezhda Chernyshova said that such actions can provoke an attack of the disease in people with epilepsy. 360.ru .

Earlier, Doctor of Medical Sciences, geriatrician Yuri Konev told in an interview with NSN that if after visiting the steam room the pulse starts to rise and the pressure drops, then the bath is contraindicated.
