- The Russian Foreign Ministry announced the beginning of the ratification of the UN Convention against Cybercrime
Russia has begun the procedure for ratifying the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime. This was announced on January 28 by Dmitry Bukin, Deputy Director of the Department of International Information Security at the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"With its entry into force after 40 ratifications, we have already started the ratification procedures," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
According to the diplomat, the convention will provide the participating countries with an effective tool to combat hackers and cybercriminals. The document also provides for the possibility of exchanging electronic evidence.
Bukin also noted that in the future, the scope of the convention is planned to be expanded through the negotiation of an additional protocol.
On October 25, Russian Prosecutor General Alexander Gutsan signed the UN Convention against Cybercrime on behalf of the Russian Federation. It was clarified that the document is the world's first global international agreement aimed at strengthening information security. The Convention is based on the principles of equality of all States and non-interference in their internal affairs.
On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the signing of the UN Convention against Cybercrime a historic event. He also noted that Russia is ready for close international cooperation in the field of combating cybercrime.
