Over the past day, 196 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 12 people were killed and 258 injured. Seven of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on January 28 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
As a result of 52 accidents, 33 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 19 outside their area of operation, five pedestrians were killed, 47 more were injured of varying severity. Seven underage pedestrians were among the injured, while all of them were injured when crossing the roadway in designated places, which means that it was the fault of drivers and their own negligence, the department noted.
23 accidents involving minors were registered, in which 25 young road users, including 18 passengers, were injured. There are no dead children.
12 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which one person was killed, and another 21 road users needed medical attention. Five bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.
So, in the Irkutsk region, on 124 km of the federal highway R-258 Baikal, a 56-year-old truck driver skidded a semi—trailer on a snowy highway, which drove into the oncoming lane, where it collided with an intercity bus en route Ulan-Ude - Irkutsk with 11 passengers in the cabin. As a result of the incident, the 45-year-old bus driver and four of his passengers were hospitalized with injuries, and two more passengers were treated on an outpatient basis.
