In Germany, it was proposed to limit the use of mobile phones in schools
The Christian Democratic Union (CDU), which is part of the German coalition government, has called for the creation of "safe zones" without mobile phones in all German schools. This was reported on January 28 by the Tagesspiegel newspaper.
"Mandatory safe zones should be created in all schools for students up to and including 10th grade, in which personal use of digital devices is prohibited during lessons and recess," the party's proposal says.
The party document also cites research results that have shown that "constant use of mobile phones is associated with decreased concentration, increased stress levels, and decreased satisfaction with everyday school life."
The newspaper reports that the CDU's proposal is related to teacher complaints about conflicts, cyberbullying and violations of discipline in classrooms. It is specified that this is directly related to the use of personal smartphones.
On January 24, French President Emmanuel Macron instructed the government to adopt a law banning the use of social networks for children under the age of 15 in an accelerated format. It is noted that the French parliament will begin consideration of the bill on January 26.
Reuters reported on January 1 that France is going to ban children under the age of 15 from using social media and mobile phones in secondary schools from September 2026 amid growing concern about the impact of online harm on minors. In addition, in 2023, a law was passed requiring social platforms to obtain parental consent to create accounts for children under the age of 15.
