On January 28, captured soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yuriy Vilko said that employees of the Territorial Recruitment Center (TCC, an analogue of the military enlistment Office in Ukraine) took him to the military enlistment office when he was intoxicated.

"They took me away, they wouldn't let me go home. <… > They were immediately brought to the regional shopping mall for a medical examination. Whether I passed it or not, because I was inadequate, I don't remember, well, I think I passed. Then they send me to the Rovinsky training ground," he said.

Wilko added that after completing the training, he was sent to the front, where they tried to convince him that he would not participate in the assaults, but upon arrival in Sumy region, he was sent to dig trenches. At the same time, the training was superficial and incomplete. He also had an epileptic seizure during his training. According to the militant, many of the recruits were incapacitated and could not perform combat missions.

The prisoner clarified that after digging out one position, after a week's rest, his team went to dig out another, after which he was captured by soldiers of the Russian army of the North group of forces. He noted that during his capture, Russian servicemen provided him with assistance, as well as warmed, fed and changed clothes, while Ukrainian colleagues abandoned their own.

"I can even say thank you to these guys. So, guys, if you have the opportunity, give up and you will live better, at least you will stay alive," he concluded.

On January 10, Alexander Shakura, a prisoner of war of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that he was fraudulently sent to the front line, hiding the real conditions of service. Shakura shared that he had repeatedly asked about his service life and wondered when he would be sent home. To the prisoner's numerous questions, the command replied that "no one will ever change him from here."
