- Zakharova pointed to Zelensky's plans to disrupt peace talks through terrorist attacks
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky wants to disrupt any negotiations on the settlement of the conflict with terrorist attacks against the civilian population. This was announced on January 28 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"[Ukraine's] strikes are aimed precisely at civilians, civilians, and social facilities. These are not just strikes, they are terrorist attacks. Here you can find different reasons, the origins of such behavior. <...> This is, of course, a disruption and an attempt to disrupt any discussions and movements towards peace," she said on Sputnik Radio.
According to Zakharova, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are striking not because of the necessity dictated by the situation at the front, but purposefully against the civilian population.
The diplomat added that Zelensky has already been called a fascist inside Ukraine, citing as an example the words of the leader of the Batkivshchyna party Yulia Tymoshenko, against whom a criminal investigation has been initiated in the country.
"It is impossible to imagine that Yulia Tymoshenko has tender feelings for Russia, because a few years ago she offered to crack down on Russia. And now we have reached the situation when Tymoshenko called Zelensky's regime fascist," the diplomat said.
Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, said on January 12 that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were deliberately targeting infrastructure facilities and civilians in Russia. He added that by striking Russia, President Zelensky is nullifying US President Donald Trump's proposals to resolve the conflict.
