- The State Duma announced the blocking of websites selling nicotine-containing products from March 1.
Starting in March of this year, Internet resources selling tobacco and nicotine-containing products will be blocked in the Russian Federation without the need for legal proceedings. This was announced on January 28 by Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications, federal coordinator of the Digital Russia project from the United Russia party.
"On March 1, 2026, the law on the extrajudicial blocking of websites with online sales of tobacco and nicotine-containing products comes into force, and this is a logical step in the development of regulation of the digital environment and the protection of citizens' health. The state consistently closes the channels of remote trade in goods, the turnover of which is directly restricted by law, especially given that the Internet remains one of the key sources of access for minors to such products,"RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
