Five people were injured in clashes between protesters over the trade agreement between the European Union (EU) and the MERCOSUR trade bloc (MERCOSUR, South American Common Market) farmers and police in Toulouse. This was reported on January 27 by the French newspaper Le Monde, citing information from the fire service.

"As a result of clashes between farmers and the police, five people were injured," the publication says.

It is specified that six people were also arrested during the protests. According to the newspaper, the arrests were made for "rebellion and the use of violence against law enforcement officers."

The EU and MERCOSUR, which includes Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, signed a trade agreement on January 17 after more than 25 years of discussions. According to him, the European Union and MERCOSUR are creating a free trade zone with a combined population of 718 million people and a gross domestic product of $22.4 trillion. One of the key provisions of the agreement is the abolition of customs duties between the two blocs.

The German newspaper Berliner Zeitung reported on January 22 that farmers blocked roads in the eastern part of Berlin in protest against the EU-MERCOSUR trade agreement.
