The Riga District Court sentenced human rights defender Alexander Gaponenko to 10 years in prison after participating in a conference in Moscow. This was reported on January 27 by the Lithuanian agency LETA.

"On Tuesday, the Rizhsky District Court sentenced Alexander Gaponenko to ten years in prison and three years of probation supervision for helping a foreign state in activities directed against Latvia, as well as for inciting national hatred and hostility," the publication says.
