The deputy head of the LDPR faction, Sergei Leonov, sent an appeal to the Ministry of Industry and Trade with a proposal to ban the sale of alcohol at store cashiers. The letter is at the disposal of Izvestia.

"It is noted directly by citizens that the presence of a visual effect stimulates the "impulsive" purchase of alcohol, and has the maximum effect on people with severe addiction, often provoking a return to consumption. Thus, according to law enforcement monitoring, the demonstration of alcohol in the checkout area in non—specialized stores is an extremely negative circumstance that causes an increase in alcohol consumption by a significant number of citizens," the letter says.

The parliamentarian also asked to introduce a ban on the sale of alcohol in places of "settlement between buyer and seller" in the existing legislation.

On January 9, the Governor of the Vologda Region, Georgy Filimonov, announced that 610 alcohol markets operating in the region had closed, stopped selling alcohol, or had been redesigned. In addition, 218 of 316 vaping shops in the region have stopped working, Filimonov added.
