The ex-chief narcologist of Russia, Brun, was released from prison in a penal colony.

The court released Evgeny Brun, a former chief psychiatrist and narcologist at the Russian Ministry of Health, from serving his sentence in a penal colony due to poor health. This was announced on January 28 by a participant in the trial familiar with the case.

"The court released Yevgeny Brun from serving a prison sentence due to an illness incompatible with being in prison," an unnamed source told RIA Novosti.

It is specified that the doctor was sentenced to seven years in the case of fraud with the prices of test containers for testing.

Brun's detention in Moscow became known in August 2022. Besides him, four other people were detained. As part of the case, 27 addresses were searched. He is accused of embezzlement by supplying medical devices for the determination of drug addiction at inflated prices to the MNPC of Narcology.

On October 17, 2024, the Kuzminsky District Court of Moscow sentenced Brun to seven years in a penal colony for fraud. Initially, the state prosecution requested eight years in a general regime penal colony for Brune.
