The day of the 82nd anniversary of the complete liberation of the hero city of Leningrad from the Nazi blockade ended on January 27 with a festive artillery salute. More than a thousand fireworks lit up the sky near the Peter and Paul Fortress, the press service of the administration of St. Petersburg reported on its website.
The salute was made by calculations of the batteries of 85-millimeter guns D-44 Mikhailovsky Military Artillery Academy. The servicemen carried out 30 artillery volleys, which were accompanied by the launch of more than a thousand fireworks using special fireworks installations.
More than 200 military personnel, 12 D-44 guns and 12 fireworks installations of the Mikhailovsky Military Artillery Academy were involved in providing the artillery salute.
On January 27, the All-Russian action "Spark of Hope" took place in St. Petersburg, timed to coincide with the Day of the complete lifting of the siege of Leningrad. The action ended with the lighting of thousands of sparklers, symbolizing the memory and continuity of generations.
On January 27, the Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, congratulated the residents of the city on the 82nd anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi blockade. On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin laid flowers at the Rubezhny Kamen monument on Nevsky Prospekt. This place, from where Soviet troops repeatedly tried to break the siege of Leningrad, has become one of the most heroic and tragic symbols of the struggle for the city.
