Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in commemorative events on the anniversary of the complete lifting of the siege of Leningrad on January 27, appearing with the Leningrad Victory ribbon on his lapel during an event on Nevsky Prospekt in St. Petersburg.

On the 82nd anniversary of the liberation of the city from the blockade, the head of state visited the Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery. There he laid a wreath at the foot of the monument "Mother Motherland", as well as flowers at the grave of his brother, who died in childhood in besieged Leningrad.

The ribbon is made in the colors of the moire ribbon of the medal "For the Defense of Leningrad". It includes two stripes — olive, symbolizing Victory, and green, symbolizing life.

Putin annually participates in events dedicated to the memorable date of lifting the blockade. However, he had not previously used a ribbon, which is traditionally worn by many residents of St. Petersburg these days.

An action dedicated to the 82nd anniversary of the complete lifting of the siege of Leningrad was also held in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). It was held by activists of the Young Guard of United Russia. Izvestia correspondent Evgeny Bykovsky noted that about 100 young people took part in the event, who took the symbolic 872 steps, according to the number of days of the blockade.
